Varsity highlights
Pioneer ran well at the SEC Jamboree #3. The top three runners
ran 16:51 or faster, a fine accomplishment. Even the #7 runner came
in at 17:23, which shows outstanding team depth.
Unfortunately, we did lose to Saline. Saline ran extremely well. In the
final standings, Bedford was first, followed by Pioneer and Saline in a
tie for 2nd place.
As usual, James Naughton led the way with a time of 16:10. Joe
Anderson finished next with a PR (personal record) time of 16:50. Andy
Harvey was just behind Joe with a season-best time of 16:51. This is
the first time this season that Pioneer had 3 runners under 17:00.
Soren Berg (17:11) and Jeff Hubbard (17:19) wrapped up the scoring for
Pioneer. With five runners at 17:19 or better, Pioneer is well ahead
of the performance of the 2000 team (which finished #17 in the state
meet). Things are looking good as we head to the regional meet.
We don't want to forget senior Mike Roth. Mike ran 17:23, a PR of
21 seconds. Way to go Mike.
Junior varsity highlights
Mortie led the way for the JV squad. Mortie ran 17:36, a PR by
15 seconds. Great work Mortie.
Ten other JV runners turned in PR's. The largest improvements were
recorded by the Hospadarak brothers. Luke improved his PR by 50 seconds
while Max improved by 45 seconds. Nick Wilkenson, Stuart Remick,
Nick Wickstrom and Alex Urbank improved their PR's by 20 or more seconds.
