Varsity highlights
Weather: 60, cloudy
Pioneer ran two teams in the varsity race at the Gabriel Richard
Invitational. The A team results are presented here. The
B team results are included in the JV section below.
The Pioneers ran a solid race at the Gabriel Richard Invitational,
placing 5th of 16 teams. Once again Pioneer had three runners under
17:00. These three runners also placed in the top 25.
The Pioneers were led by Matt Johnson (11th, 16:38).
Andy Harvey also ran well and showed that his Portage time was not
a fluke. Andy ran 16:52 and took 22nd place. Eric Ford-Holevinski
also broke 17:00 for the second consecutive week (24th, 16:58).
Pioneer's 5th and 6th men recorded excellent times. Nick Piotrowski ran a
PR time of 17:27. Mike Roth, the 6th man, bettered his PR by 23 seconds.
Mike took 68th place in a time of 18:09. Mike is now close to breaking
18:00 for the first time. Way to go, Nick and Mike.
On a negative note, James Naughton attempted to return from injury
at this meet. Unfortunately, James was unable to finish the race. At
this point, it's not certain that James will return for the regional
meet in two weeks. This is not good news.
Junior varsity highlights
The top JV runners ran as the Pioneer B team in the varsity race.
The Pioneer B team took 15th place. It was a good effort, but of
course it was difficult competing against varsity teams. Dan
Wucherer continues to run well. Dan was the top B team finisher.
Kevin Goehring was just behind in a PR time of 18:41.
In the JV race, the star was Kellan Winbourne. Kellan crushed his
PR by 2:22. Josh Salvner and Chad Schoch also ran PR's.
Kevin Goehring was the top sophmore on Saturday, with Soren Berg
about 20 seconds behind. The top freshman was Sam Milgrom, with
Stephen Sepaniak only 9 seconds back. These are still close battles.
