Regional Meet, Oct. 30, 1999HighlightsAlas, Pioneer did not qualify for the state meet. Pioneer placed 6th of 17 teams. Furthermore, none of Pioneer's runners were able to qualify as individuals. The regional was very strong this year, probably the 2nd toughest regional in the state. Pioneer was led by James Naughton, who ran 17:07 to claim 22nd place. James started very quickly, running the first mile in 4:59, but was still able to finish with a personal record time. Nick Piotrowski and Mike Kelly-Sell both set personal records while Andy Harvey equalled his season's best time. These were all excellent performances on an unusually warm late October day. Some top performances were turned in by the junior varsity team. The JV team was led by Alan Antonuk with a fine 18:23 on a warm day. Personal records were set by Mike Roth, Pat Cullip, Nick Wilkenson, Dan Wucherer and Mike VanWambeke. Dan ran an amazing two minutes faster than his previous best. The future is very bright! The varsity team was composed of four sophmores and three juniors. Varsity Team ResultsTeam Points 1. Saline 42 2. Novi 74 3. Livonia-Churchill 112 4. Livonia-Stevenson 128 5. North Farmington 159 6.
