About the Foot Locker meets

The Foot Locker meets are a true national championship for high school cross country. There are 4 regional meets, with the top 8 boys and girls from each regional advancing to the national meet. Michigan runners compete at the Midwest Regional which is run in Kenosha, Wisconsin. There are a number of races. Besides the seeded race, which determines the national qualifiers, there are additional races for freshmen/sophmores and juniors/seniors who do not make the qualifying time for the seeded race.

Results

Three runners from Pioneer went to the Midwest Foot Locker meet.

Matt Johnson competed in the seeded race. He placed 173 of 342 runners, with a time of 16:54. At first glance this does not appear to be a particularly outstanding time. However, the Kenosha course is quite hilly and the course is clogged by the larger number of runners. In fact, breaking 17:00 in this race is an excellent accomplishment. Congratulations to Matt on an outstanding race. The complete results for the seeded race can be found here.

Joe Anderson and James Naughton competed in the freshman/sophmore race. Joe placed 80th of 279 runners (17:46). James was not far behind, placing 86th (17:51). These are respectable times for a difficult course. The complete results for the freshman/sophmore race can be found here.

The winner of the Midwest Region seeded race, Dathan Ritzenheim of Rockford, Michigan, went on to win the national championship in a record time. The results for the national race can be found at this website.
